In searching for a stacking program the criteria I use to judge them are: 1) Quality of the rendered images 2) Ability to handle RAW files 3) Flexibility to modify and optimize the rendering process and output 4) Availability of other utilities and tools and 5) Ease of use. I will list some of the other software below in my links that are free but I have not tested them. In looking for software to stack images I found that Adobe Photoshop CS6 to CC2017, Helicon Focus and Zerene Stacker appear to be popular programs for image stacking - all of these are commercial products, but the nice thing is that they all offer 30 free trial where you can test the software. I will describe different methods and software for stacking images below. In this instance I was fortunate that there was no wind, if there had been, stacking the images may not have worked so well, generally you need stationary subjects. Stacking for landscapes can be useful and is easy to to do. I took one shot focused on the flowers and one shot focused on the distant mountain and combined them in a focus stack. The two images were stacked in Photoshop, each image was taken at F16, 1\50 sec, ISO 200 with a 35 mm lens on a tripod. After stacking you may have to "fix" some areas of the image that don't blend perfectly - usually near edges.Ībove is a two image focus stack from a scene in the Blaeberry Valley, BC. Photoshop is able to align images that are not in perfect alignment but I get better results by using a tripod. I hand held these shots but I recommend that you use a tripod. You could not achieve this using any F-stop as the card was only a few inches from my face. Below is a simple demonstration.Ībove I took two photographs 1) focused on the card and my hand, note the distant mountain is blurred 2) focused on the distant mountain, note my hand and card is blurred 3) Combined stack of the first two images in Photoshop now both the card and mountain are sharp and in focus. If you are only going to take one shot of a landscape and want maximum depth of field we often shoot at F11-F22 and focus at the hyperfocal point, but by stacking several images you can achieve greater depth and sharper images. Beyond F11 an image begins to lose sharpness due to diffraction of light. You can use the lens at F5.6-F11 where the lens provides the sharpest image and has an intermediate depth of field. In this article I will compare three popular programs used for Focus stacking: Photoshop, Helicon Focus and Zerene stacker.ĭiatoms - Photoshop stack of 12 images, Negative Phase contrast microscopy, 200X Focus Stacking in Outdoor and Landscape Photographyįor landscape photography the good news is that generally you only need 2 photos, one focused on the foreground and the other on the distant horizon. Stacking is also used in product photography like jewellery or any place where it is essential that the entire subject be sharp and in focus. It is not uncommon to see some photographers use 40-100 stacked images in macro and photomicrography. The subject depth and magnification determines how many images you need in a stack to get a sharp picture with enhanced depth of field. The depth of field can be as small as 1-2 microns at magnifications of 400x and higher with a microscope. In macrophotography the depth of field can be less than a millimetre and in microscopy the depth of field is measured in microns (thousands of a millimetre). In macro and photomicrography the closer one is to the subject or the higher the magnification the shallower the depth of field. Stacking can be used in landscape photography by combining a photograph focused on the foreground and one focused on the background to create an incredible depth of field that exceeds what could be done using a very high F-stop (F16-F64), using a tilt-shift lens, or even a large format camera. Stacking is done in software using the digital images. Comparing Photoshop, Helicon Focus and ZereneĪbove is a Focus stack of a diatom where I combined 10 images in Photoshop 400XĪ focus stack is a photograph that is made up of a combination of two or more images that were focused at different points and then after combining the stacks the final image has a much greater depth of field.

On my system, it is rwx on the user, and rx for everyone else. But, if an error is given, then your permissions for that directory are wrong. If this works, the workflows should start working fine. In a terminal, type the following:Ĭp /Applications/Hammerspoon.app/Contents/Resources/extensions/hs/ipc/bin/hs /usr/local/bin I suspect your /usr/local/bin directory has the wrong permissions and not allowing Hammerspoon to install. If you have further ideas what's causing the problems with Hammerspoon I appreciate it.Ĭould you open the Hammerspoon console and post what it says. I may try the Mjolnir workflow instead but this seems more convenient. Strange, maybe something special with my setup is causing this error. Unfortunately it is still not working, I get the same error message as before. Thanks for the info! I've installed the latest version (1.3) of the workflow and followed your updated instructions. Have fun controlling your windows from your iPad or iPhone. This workflow is also set up with a Remote page as well. This assumes all window movements were done with Hammerspoon and this workflow functions. This command undoes the very last window move. Just be careful to get the name of the application correct! The user can create more in the same manner. I also created a hotkey for doing Expose on FoldingText. If the application has only one window, it will simply bring it to the front. It will then put all the windows back to their original position and bring the one selected to the foreground. When an application is selected, it will show all of it's windows in a matrix on the screen and ask the user for the coordinates of the one to show. This gives other workflows or scripts the ability to interact with Hammerspoon through Alfred. There is also an external trigger HammerspoonCommand that will pass whatever is sent in the trigger to Hammerspoon using the command processor as in "hs:command". Type in a command string and it will be sent to Hammerspoon directly! There is also a hotkey set to this value as an example. Therefore, to move the current window to the upper left most block in a 3x3 matric, you would do "hs:setgrid 0, 0, 1, 1". This requires you to put the x, y for a starting position in a 3x3 matrix for the current window. This snaps the current window to the closes grid box area. You can then just select one to bring it to the front, select with alt key to hide it, select with ctrl key to unhide it, and select with the fn key to close the application. This moves the window to it's own space taking up the entire screen. This toggles the system fullscreen on and off for the current window. This moves the window to the maximum size on the screen. This moves the current window to the bottom half of the screen. This moves the current window to the top half of the screen. This moves the current window to the right half of the screen. This moves the current window to the left half of the screen. This moves the current window to the right 2/3 of the screen. This moves the current window to the left 1/3 of the screen. If caffenate is active, red "zzz" will be shown. If the AnyBar workflow and program are installed, then an indicator is shown. This nudges the current window to the right. This nudges the current window to the left. This opens the Hammerspoon console to the foreground. This tells Hammerspoon to reload the configuration file. This will work for all versions newer than version 1.4. This will upgrade the hammerspoon configuration file instead of writing the main config file. The original is backed up into the users home directory as hs.orig. After that, everything should just work.Ĭonfigure Hammerspoon with the configuration file that this workflow needs. Once installed, run the "hs:install" to set the configuration file this workflow expects and reload Hammerspoon. Follow this layout and you can do many neat things with Hammerspoon.įirst off, download Hammerspoon from. This is just a sample of the things that can be done. This workflow is for running scripts using Hammerspoon to control your windows. Installing Hammerspoon is much simpler without any external modules needing to be installed. This is a direct port of my Mjolnir Workflow. Can-mount downlights were a consumer adaptation of theater downlighting, where upon a black ceiling, there is nothing bright to divert attention from a stage. In my definition, a plate LED is surface mounted, not recessed for foolish styling reasons, to look like a can-mount downlight. Photos and captions are at this web album.Īt end-October 2013, this post is edited as I update all of my blog posts, to replace phrase "plate LED," with phrase "surface mount LED." Phrase Plate LED is confused with license plate lighting, and is not accepted elsewhere as a brief statement that the luminaire may be wired directly into a junction box. Six of eight fire in this condition, and the others readily kick on with a cycle of the dimmer slider. Firing from a fully dimmed condition is better than I expected. I challenge Bonneville Power Administration and its contractor Regional Technical Forum to contradict or to accept my math above, showing that we should cease encouragement CFL installation, now rewarding installation of surface mount LEDs only.Īt, add observations of an installation of eight Sylvania 70732 LED disk lights, operated through one Cooper D106P dimmer. I am unhappy that residential electricity customers in Oregon are offered only so-crummy CFLs out of Public Purpose Fund expenditures. The wonderfully free event was sponsored in part with Oregon Public Purpose funds via Energy Trust Of Oregon. I am grateful to Google, that I may direct several important people met, to this post, and to all of its background, label LED Surface Mount Lights. The table and following text were posted, following attendance of an LED lighting trade show in Portland, Oregon. With good downlighting as surface mount LEDs, no one should newly install a can light. You will be less happy with buzz of a dimmed BR30 LED flood. No problem with the Sylvania LED Disk light. Its frosted lens should be projecting from the ceiling for Table brightness, and this will be unlikely.Īdjusting to B4 where brightness would else be greater, is by dimming. That BR30 LED flood looks OK, but it had better be in an air-tight and sealed can, fully covered with insulation if in an attic. Incandescents should be all in the trash by now. No CFL is still in the game, and each still playing had better be disposed with collection of its mercury (wishful thinking). The Sylvania LED Disk light, a surface mount LED with full reveal of light, is the winner now. Where brightness is other than B4, multiply purchase and operating costs by 4, and divide by the brightness number. Brightness numbers are assigned, and costs are referenced to those of a 100-watt incandescent bulb, B4. point-source lights (bulbs), where the brightness advantage of directional light is included. Lumens per watt for the T67 is 650/12.5 = 52, same as Glimpse.Īt, add table of savings with plate LEDs including the flood bulb of the previous post, vs. I try the Sylvania in temporary replacement of a CREE/ Home Depot T67. 750 lumens for 14.5 watts, 51.7Īt add a new Picasa Web Album showing Sylvania installation in a can light that lacked clips for the engagement springs of a Glimpse light. Will Lighting Science compete, in improvement of the Glimpse?Ī 6" Glimpse from a new production run, May 2013, is unchanged, still 34% behind the new Sylvania in lumens per watt. The Sylvania is at left, accepted as brighter by 20%, the lumens ratio, 900/750. These lights have always been silent on a dimmer. Mod 2 lights start instantly and behave perfectly on a good Cooper DAL06P dimmer. All criticism of behavior problems is resolved. The release is not publicized by Sylvania, so I will commend it. Photos are at bottom of this Picasa web album, with captions:Īt, note issue of a major improvement of this light, that I will call Sylvania 70732, mod 2. This solution may be needed for many months, awaiting factory changes and shipping from China, and Sylvania must not declare that repair voids the product warranty.Īt, note further improvement of this product. At, I found the interfering lug is easily nipped off with side cutters. My Lowe's store would take back this light as defective, but would not have anything better to offer, unless still holding a few 70732 mod 3. I think the flat head screw is more adverse. The screw head interferes with the clip whether the head is flat or round. |
